Beccah has left our Parish on September 7th to pursue a career in law enforcement. We thank her for all the good work she did for us in God’s name. We will miss her and wish her well in her new chapter! Below is Beccah's reflection on this week's Gospel reading from Matthew:
Happy Labor Day Weekend everyone! I really enjoy this Gospel reading from Matthew. I think we can all relate to Peter when he learns that Jesus will go to Jerusalem and suffer. Peter loves Jesus, and when he hears this information, he gets upset. His first thought is to try to stop his friend from suffering. We can all relate to this. If our friends told us that they are going to suffer greatly, it’s a natural feeling or desire to spare them from that and preserve them from any type of unnecessary suffering. But that’s the entire point of this. What Jesus was about to experience was not unnecessary, it was very necessary for our salvation. It was very necessary for Peter’s salvation. That’s why Jesus responds to him in a seemingly harsh way. He was responding to Peter’s very “non-heavenly” response. Jesus then told his disciples that in this life we have to pick up our crosses and follow him no matter what the cost. Let us continually pray that we can carry our crosses in this life joyfully and keep our eyes focused on heaven and Christ!
