Scammers are clever. They are experts at tricking people. Thankfully, there is one simple thing you can do to prevent yourself from becoming a victim of fraud: DO NOT CLICK THE LINK! It’s that easy!
Scammers say they are from an important institution that is sure to get your attention: a financial institution for a large transaction, a shipping company for tracking info, the IRS that you owe money. Notice a pattern? They are trying to pressure you into taking some action to get you to click on a fraudulent link. These scams could also happen over the phone! They impersonate a legitimate business or organization, then try to trick you into giving personal information.
When in doubt, just hang up and contact the business or organization directly! Never ENGAGE IN CONVERSATION with the scammer! Ignore these types of calls, texts or emails and reach out to the organization directly.
