On November 1-7, the nation and our diocese will once again celebrate Vocation Awareness Week. The theme of the diocesan celebration this year is “Sent by the Spirit.” The Church began with a group of disciples on lockdown, locked in an upper room in a chaotic world, too afraid to encounter anyone, and then the Holy Spirit showed up to make them the Church and to send them out with the good news of God’s love that changes the world. We need the same fire of the Holy Spirit to live any vocation well in today’s world. Let us remember to pray for men and women in our diocese who are discerning their vocation and encourage them to be open to the presence and promptings of the Holy Spirit in their lives.
