Our Mission: To discover God's love, so we might love God, love others, and grow as a community of disciples.
What is Catholic Social Justice? What is Catholic Social Teaching?
The series continues this week on Tuesday evening at 7:00pm at St. Julie Hall and after the 9:00am Mass at Mary Queen of Peace on Wednesday. ALL ARE WELCOME. This week’s topic is “The Life and Dignity of the Human Person.”
Catholic social teaching is a central and essential element of our faith. Its roots are in the Hebrew prophets who announced God's special love for the poor and called God's people to a covenant of love and justice. It is a teaching founded on the life and words of Jesus Christ, who came "to bring glad tidings to the poor . . . liberty to captives . . . recovery of sight to the blind"(Lk 4:18-19), and who identified himself with "the least of these," the hungry and the stranger (cf. Mt 25:45). Catholic social teaching is built on a commitment to the poor. This commitment arises from our experiences of Christ in the eucharist.

"While there, among other things, I studied the Catholic Church's positions on critical social issues impacting our times- the life and dignity of the human person, the challenge of responding to poverty, racism, injustice, and promoting peace and the common good. In my final course, I did an Independent Study on How to Bring Catholic Social Teaching to the Parish. This collection of instructions-known as Catholic Social Teaching- have been called the Catholic Church's 'best kept secret'- are a way of applying the Gospel to the challenges of our times. As my senior project I wrote a series of short summaries of each of the 10 themes. Written by Popes over the pas 130 years I was amazed and inspired and challeneged by this new way of seeing the gospel. I promise these teachings will inspire and challenge you- I know they did me!" -Paula Flynn
