Join us as we have now begun the new year, every 3rd Wednesday of the month at 1:00pm in the Emmaus Room at MQP. Help provide comfort and warmth to those who need both.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry in our parish provides knitted and crocheted shawls and lap blankets for those in need of physical, mental or spiritual healing, warmth, comfort or support during a period of loss.
Most of the shawls are made by members in their homes. The group comes together to meet monthly. We pray, share patterns and chat as we work, while maintaining a prayerful awareness of those for whom we labor. Prayers are included in every stitch. Knitters and crocheters pray for the shawl recipients as well as the shawl makers. The shawls represent the prayers of a concerned community.
When shawls are completed, they are laundered and blessed before being distributed. Parishioners are encouraged to take a prayer shawl for anyone needing any type of comfort or healing. Shawls are always available at both churches.
Our ministry is frequently blessed with yarn donations and we appreciate that. We are always looking for new members who knit, crochet or would like to learn. There is great satisfaction in providing shawls for persons in need.
We meet on the third Wednesday of each month at Mary Queen of Peace Church, in the Emmaus Room at 1:00 PM

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier, I was comforted by the prayers of the community at Sts. Mary and Joseph Parish, and by the knowledge that God was with me. One of the church members offered me a prayer shawl, but I objected that it should be given to someone who “really needed it”. My friend nevertheless insisted that I take one. To my surprise, when I returned home and put on the shawl, I immediately felt the prayers with which it had been crafted. It is hard to describe the feeling, but I know it comes from the power of prayer. I still find great comfort in my prayer shawl, and wear it to bed every night. I am wearing it now as I write! If you or someone you know is ill or in need of consolation, pick up a prayer shawl after any Mass at either of our churches—and feel the power! – Debbie Sarnie
