“Are We Judging Jesus?”–Reflection: 6/12/15

How many times have you said “I am sorry” to someone. It is really difficult, but we say these words asking forgiveness. Sometimes we speak without thinking, not realizing we are hurting a person. We feel frustrated, angry, or selfish and do not care. Words blurt out, and land in someone’s hearing range. Then, we cannot take them back. The damage has been done. Feelings of sadness are felt by all involved.

After listening to today’s Gospel, some of the disciples made judgement and most likely said hurtful things about the woman Jesus welcomed. Why was He allowing this sinful woman in His presence and allowing her to wash His feet with her hair? Never mind eating at the same table as Jesus!

As Jesus pointed out, the host of the dinner, did not greet Jesus, welcome him, or anoint his head with oil as she did. She showed Jesus great love; her sins were forgiven. The other guests at the table questioned the whole incident. Who is this man who forgives? How can he say the words “Your faith has saved you, go in peace.” Is Jesus recognizable to us? Do we know who Jesus is in our lives? Do we judge others and make remarks without really knowing what this person is all about and who they are?

In reality, we are judging Jesus and hurting him with our words or actions. Is that fair? Jesus is always present for us. Come to know the Lord personally and let that personal relationship with God guide our actions. Thank Jesus for His love. Let us love our Lord with all our being.
